“Mom, It's Not Itchy!" The Story Behind KLISTEL's Mulmul Lining and Comfortable & Customizations

A parent’s familiar struggle!

Sure, you know this situation all too well if you are a mom, Mausi, or even a dad: You just arrived at the lively wedding reception of your cousin, and your little one starts squirming uncomfortably! Their tiny fingers frantically scratching at new clothes, and the foreseeable cry: "Maa, it's so itchy! I want to get out of this, NOW!”

It's at this very moment the joy of dressing up your child transforms into an unexpected, and let’s just be honest, extremely tiring battle.

At KLISTEL, we have listened to countless mothers share this universal struggle – how they want to find a delicate (and affordable, of course) balance between style and their child's comfort, especially in heavy ethnic dresses.

And we have found the perfect solution: Feather soft Mulmul lining!

The Magic of Mulmul Lining: Mother’s Comfort Against the Tender Skin

When we set out to create kid’s wear that truly understands both mother's woes and child’s annoyance, we turned to a fabric that has cradled Indian babies for generations – mulmul. This earth-friendly and breathable cotton fibric has been handwoven in India for centuries, originating from the skilled hands Bengali weavers of who perfected the art of sewing the incredibly fine, lightweight fabric ever produced in the world, known as the muslin.

The benefits of mulmul lining in children’s clothing are superlative:

  • The extremely soft and breathable mulmul fabric provides ample air circulation to prevent overheating and skin irritation in kids.
  • Mumul has exceptional moisture-wicking properties, which keep little ones dry and comfortable even during active play, as well as on exhausting summer days. This significantly reduces the number of outfit changes.
  • Mulmul also contains hypo-allergenic properties, going gentle on sensitive children’s skin. It is also resistant to dust mites.
  • As a nature-driven fabric, mulmul can naturally regulate temperature, providing warmth in winter and cooling effect in summer.

·         Mulmul’s extremely long and silkier fibre in contrast to ordinary cotton fibre, makes it resistant to tearing, wrinkling, and fraying.

  • The versatility of mulmul fabric in colours and weaves makes it a suitable lining solution for both traditional and casual kids' wear.

However, what makes mulmul truly special is the traditional Indian textile craft behind it. The fabric undergoes multiple washing processes using rice starch and river water, followed by sun-drying on the riverbanks – techniques passed down through generations. This time-honored method results in a uniquely soft texture that modern manufacturing simply cannot replicate.

 KLISTEL’s Mulmul

Our Mulmul lining feels like a gentle mother’s kiss against your child's sensitive skin. Incredibly soft, cool, and skin-friendly, it creates a protective barrier between your child and outer fabrics that might otherwise cause irritation, redness, or allergic reaction.

Created from 100% organic extra cotton fibres, nurtured by the earth without harsh chemicals or pesticides, our mulmul carries the earth's promise in every thread. Naturally biodegradable, it returns to the soil when its journey ends, leaving nothing but memories of the precious little ones it protected.

As your child plays beneath summer skies or snuggles close during bedtime stories, this sustainable fabric breathes with them, nurturing both delicate skin and the planet they will live in future.

Watching your little one twirl carefree in their new outfit, without a single scratch or complaint, is the quiet victory every mother dream of.

And so do we!

Your Kid Will Grow in Style: The Practical Wonder of Our 2-Inch Margin

"I barely finished paying for this beautiful pink sharara, and she's already outgrown them. Duh!"

You have been here too, right?

This familiar lament inspired one of our most thoughtful innovations. Each KLISTEL garment includes a generous 2-inch margin, our secret gift to parents practically navigating the whirlwind of raising a child and the challenges of childhood growth spurts.

This practical feature means your child's favourite dress (or yours) can grow alongside them, extending wear time from months to years.

As XXX, a KLISTEL mother of two, shared: "I live in the USA and purchasing a new dress for every Indian function for my four-year-old is definitely taxing. But KLISTEL has been a blessing! My daughter wore her favourite Sultana Salwar Suit through Diwali, a family wedding, and a housewarming ceremony across 12 months. The growing margin, which I could easily expand to a larger size at home, was a blessing that not only saved my budget but also my sanity.

Behind the scenes, each KLISTEL creation is backed by Indian weavers and traditional artists whose skilled hands change ordinary fabric into memory-making outfits. Our team of talented artisans, many of whom are mothers themselves, understand that every stitch and every design element matter when it comes to your child's comfort.
